So I’m trying to cut down on my beauty purchases but I just couldn’t help myself when I saw this stuff. I went over to Amherst, NY during my Christmas holidays and I always stock up on products that are not available in Canada. I’ve had the chance to use all of those products so can also give a little review for each.
To make matters even worse for my self-control, all of the drugstore brands are coming out with the Spring 2012 products…what if I wait and then they are all sold out and I can never get these products ever again?!?! (yes, that’s exactly what goes through my head. yes, I may have a slight obsession with beauty products).
And to make everything the absolute worst…the Nicki Minaj collection for OPI came out…First World Problems at its finest.
I have pictures of all products included, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Enjoy the haul!
OK, let’s start with the Nicki Minaj for OPI collection. To my dismay, all the stores in the Eaton Centre were sold out of the large sized bottles but I was able to find this mini set for $14.95 from Trade Secrets. There are 6 colours in the collection, including 1 crackle, 2 glitter and 3 cream colours.
Did It On Em is this great creamy lime green colour (close dupe: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lickety-Split Lime) which will be great for spring/summer days.
Fly is a creamy bright teal colour (close dupe: none that I know of) which I feel is a must-buy from the collection. This would be so cute with white polka dots for an accent nail during the spring.
Pink Friday is a true creamy baby pink (dupe: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Pink Blink – see picture below). While the colour is great, I know that you can find similar colours from basically all brands, so I would save your money on this one.
Save Me is this AMAZING light silver glitter polish with multicolour bar glitter. One coat is a little sparse but a second coat looks really good over a base colour. I have not tried it on its own but I’m guessing you would need 3-4 coats to have a full-blown glitter nail. This is another must-buy from the collection, solely for the unique bar glitter but I have a feeling that this will be a trend with cheaper brands soon.
Overall thoughts: I love Nicki Minaj so even if I hated all of the colours, I would have still bought the mini set. But I don’t hate ANY of them.

USA Trip Haul
So as most Canadians know, the US has some great products we just can’t get our hands on unless we somehow find them online or make a trip across the border. Luckily I live close enough to the border that I can go over to get these great products. I only got a few products because at that point I was practicing self-control….I know, shocking.
Elf Blush in Fuschia Fusion – it’s definitely a fuschia colour with A LOT of glitter. However, once you get you get the blush on your brush then on your face, most of that glitter miraculously disappears leaving a light fuschia/pink hue. This blush isn’t incredibly pigmented BUT I’m pale so that’s fine by me (don’t need to look like a clown). Swatch in last picture.
Overall thoughts: Not my most favourite blush in my collection or by this brand but its nice if I want a glowy look that day. Great for the price…$3. (yes you read that correctly)
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation in Natural Ivory #20 – I’ve heard a lot about this foundation from YouTube beauty gurus I watch so I went with the intent of buying it. They say it is comparable with a NARS foundation but at a fraction of the price. The foundation has SPF20 which is great and contains antioxidants (don’t know which ones though….) Medium coverage with definite possibility of building up without becoming cakey. Leaves my skin with a nice subtle glow and doesn’t accentuate the dry parts of my skin (UNLESS I haven’t exfoliated for a few days but then that’s my own fault, not the foundation’s)
Overall thoughts: Great foundation that I like better than Revlon’s Photoready with good coverage and nice finish. Definitely going to repurchase, esp that it’s only $11.99 USD.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Fair #10 – I was running out of concealer and wanted something with a little bit more coverage to hide the fact that I usually don’t get enough sleep. Heard about this product from MakeupByTiffanyD on YouTube and thought I would give it a try. Definitely different packaging where you turn the neck for 2 clicks and then product comes up through the sponge applicator. I don’t use the applicator to blend the product, just to apply. The formulation is slightly oily but this is great so you don’t have to worry about it getting into every line and wrinkly bit under your eye. Great coverage that some days I could see myself just using this before going out to run errands. I, however, would not use this for acne or spots (still on the hunt for a good concealer for that).
Overall thoughts: Great product with unique packaging. Great coverage and good consistency. Definite repurchase, although slightly overpriced in my opinion (most likely due to packaging).
Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum – These winter months are doing a toll on my lips and skin and the whole washcloth method to rid myself of flaky lips just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Went to Lush to try out their Lip Scrub. There are a few scents/flavours available but I chose the Bubblegum one (smells soooo good!). Its basically just a sugar scrub so you could make it at home BUT I’m just a little bit too lazy for that.
Overall thoughts: Works very well (just have to remember to use it…it’s hard for me to introduce a new product into my routine). Great scent and the amount you get for the price ($8.50) is a steal! Definite repurchase next winter.
Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee – My god is there a hype for this product and I think it’s completely justified. I only bought one colour but could see myself going to get a few more. Basically these are pigmented lip butters in lipstick form. Creme brule is a great nude with decent payoff. Lasts for maybe 2 hours before needing to reapply (unless you eat or drink something, then you’ll need to reapply immediately after)
Overall thoughts: Uber moisturizing and good payoff considering that. Need to try out some other colours to really make my mind up. Unsure if I would repurchase as these are pretty expensive ($10.49).
Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo Creme Eyeshadow in Tough as Taupe – A drugstore cream shadow that promises not to crease and have amazing payoff…?? I know, sounds like the makeup equivalent of a unicorn, but its true! Comes in a variety of colours, some neutrals and some brights. I hear these are comparable to MAC paint pots but I’ve never bought any MAC so I personally can’t comment.
Overall thoughts: OMG please go out to buy these so they make them permanent. I’m going to buy a back up of this colour because it is great for day-to-day or for creating a great smokey eye for night. Most likely won’t buy any other colours though because I won’t use them.
