Cherry Blooms is a cosmetics company based out of Australia that began with Fiber Lashes Mascara then grew to include lip products, eyeliner and more. Products can be found in Europe, South America, Canada, the US, and of course Australia.
Along with offering cruelty free, vegan, and paraben free products, a portion of the lip product production costs goes directly to the grassroots charities of the #KissPovertyGoodbye campaign, helping street children have a better life away from homelessness, abuse and child trafficking.
I tried out one of the lip products that is included in the #KissPovertyGoodbye, the Matte Volumizer in the shade Posh. It retails for $27 USD and comes in 5 shades in total. It promises to be longwearing, not dry out your lips, volumize, and smooth any fine lines with its textured powder fillers.
In the instructions for this liquid lipstick, it says to apply 3 layers of the product, letting each one dry before applying the next. The first layer went on very well but there were a few spots that you could still see my lips underneath. I let the first layer dry for about 10-15 seconds as instructed and then applied the second layer. It also went on very nice and amped up the pigmentation and was fully opaque. I again let the product dry for about 10-15 seconds before applying the last layer. I honestly didn’t see much difference between the second and third layer.
The packaging states that the first layer acts as a base. The second layer is the colour that stays on the surface. While the third layer is a barrier and ensures that the colour is long wearing. While the idea is good, I’m too sure this fully works. I think I could have gotten the same results with just two layers. But it didn’t feel uncomfortable or heavy on the lips. I maybe should have let the layers dry more in between layers as it didn’t fully dry down until about an hour after applying.
About an hour after applying, I ate lunch and was pleasantly surprised with minimal wear, only around the corners of my mouth. I didn’t experience any transfer below my lips which happens to me a lot when I eat. It also passed the kiss test after eating and didn’t transfer over my bf’s face.
A few hours later, the corners wore off some more and it started to not have as crisp of a line around the outside of my lips. I applied some lip balm at this point (the packaging states that you can to add back moisture if needed). Once I applied the lip balm, the longwearing nature of the lip product basically went away. It didn’t move around my face but definitely started to wear off a bit faster and was also not transfer proof.
I would say that if I didn’t apply lip balm and just touched up the edges with a matching lip liner, this would have been great on my lips for at least 6 hours. I never had my lips feel parched or dried out which is great for a liquid lipstick. Though I don’t have issues with the ColourPop Ultra Mattes which cause a lot of issues for other people.
Overall, I am pretty impressed with the Cherry Blooms Matte Volumizer in Posh. The pigmentation is fantastic and it had very good wear time. I am definitely going to try only using 2 layers to see how that works out in terms of longevity.
til next time…
