This year for the Sephora VIB sale I only bought 2 things—some backups of my Sephora concealer and the Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Mauve. Not too bad eh?
I haven’t made the plunge to buy the gorgeous looking Huda Beauty Desert Dusk palette but knew I wanted to try out their eyeshadows in a way that wouldn’t make my wallet weep.
The Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Mauve is a 9 pan eyeshadow palette with 3 shimmers, 5 mattes and 1 matte-satin shadow. It retails for $35 CDN ($27 USD) and also comes in three other shades (Warm Brown, Smokey, and Electric).
I have swatches below along with an eye look I created using some of the shadows.
Now I’ve only used this palette a handful of times but I am SO impressed with the quality of these eyeshadows. Super pigmented but easy to blend out. The shimmers layer well over the mattes and vice versa which is the recipe for wonderful, blended out eye looks. I find that I can either apply the shimmers with my finger or a flat shader brush for pretty similar looks. Just be careful of a bit of fallout with the shimmers as it can clump up a bit on your brush. You do need to layer the shimmers a bit when they are dry to get a full molten look.
Despite the shades all being pretty similar, you can create some really nice, different eye looks with this palette. I could easily see myself travelling with this palette plus another small palette to complement it. In the look below, I used the matte brown shade in the crease then followed that with the bottom right corner matte berry-wine shade. On the lid, I put the two darker shimmer shades. In the inner corner, I used the matte cream shade (I highly recommend mixing it with the light shimmer shade for a bit of shine if you want). In the outer corner, I put a touch of the brown-plum matte shade in the bottom left corner. Lastly, I ran a bit of the brown and the berry-wine shade on my lower lash line.
What do you think of this palette? Have you tried Huda Beauty shadows before?
til next time…
